Floods in Lower Saxony: Current Road Closures

As of: December 28, 2023, 10:22 AM

The region of Lower Saxony is facing significant traffic disruptions due to weather-induced flooding. Persistent and heavy rainfall has led to dangerously high water levels in several rivers, causing roadways to become inundated and leading to closures of various transportation routes.

Currently, several highway segments are affected, including the A7, which has been closed in both directions between the Soltau-East and Dorfmark junctions due to flooding. The A2 has also been closed between Braunschweig-Watenbüttel and Peine as a result of the rising waters.

In addition to the highways, federal roads are also impacted. Partial closures are in place on the B3 and B6, while the B214 near Nienburg is completely impassable. State roads such as the L380 and L760 have been overtaken by floodwaters and are currently closed to traffic.

Authorities are working tirelessly to secure and restore the affected routes. Motorists are strongly advised to heed the warnings and avoid the closed areas. Up-to-date information on traffic conditions and detour recommendations can be accessed through the Traffic Information Center.

With no immediate end to the rainfall in sight according to current weather reports, the flooding situation is expected to remain critical. Residents and travelers in the affected areas should stay alert to local news updates and follow instructions from the authorities.
