Vilnius, Lithuania: The international conference “Teaching and Learning Languages in the 21st Century

The international conference “Teaching and Learning Languages in the 21st Century: Linguistic, Educational and Cultural Aspects” marked a significant gathering of language educators and researchers in Lithuania.

Held on June 7-8, 2018, in Vilnius, this conference was organized by the Institute of Foreign Languages of the Faculty of Philology at Vilnius University, the Language Teachers’ Association of Lithuania (LKPA), and the FIPLV Nordic-Baltic Region (NBR). It attracted approximately 150 participants from over 20 countries. The conference’s objectives were to convene language policymakers, educators, and researchers to discuss the mission of 21st-century teaching, the definition of teaching quality, and the efficiency and effectiveness of education. It also aimed to examine the goals, needs, and outlooks of teaching and learning languages in a multicultural setting, which would further promote democratic citizenship, social cohesion, and intercultural dialogue. This international academic event provided a platform for exchanging information and knowledge, sharing best practices, and fostering experiences beyond national borders in teacher training and the advancement of teachers’ competencies. This, in turn, would lead to a deeper understanding of how to teach the new generation of students. The discussions included not only international practices but also specific insights into Lithuania, offering Lithuanian researchers the chance to present their work, exchange best practices, and form new connections with fellow practitioners and scholars from other nations.

Hayford A. Anyidoho from Hamburg, Germany, presented a paper titled “DIGITAL IM EINKLANG MIT ANALOG INTERKULTURELLER DaF-UNTERRICHT IN HETEROGENEN GRUPPEN,” which detailed the integration of digital and traditional teaching methods in diverse groups.
